Eggental
Eggental was formed through a process of glacial and fluvial erosion over thousands of years.
The road that runs through it is considered the starting point of the historic Great Dolomite Road. In 1860, there was already a road linking Cardano with Nova Levante, through the Val d’Ega. It was Christomannos in particular, the son of a wealthy Greek merchant family living in Vienna, who realised the importance of a road that would not only serve as access to individual valleys, but would connect the entire Dolomite area.

After a journey of almost 18 km, you reach Ponte Nova. Downstream of the village is the bus station where lines 181 for Nova Ponente and Pietralba, 182 for Collepietra, 184 for Nova Ponente and Obereggen cross.
From Ponte Nova, the S.S. 141 of the Val d’Ega leads to Nova Levante, Welschnofen in German, meaning “Ladin Nova”.

Continuing after Nova Levante, one crosses the Latemar forest, also called the forest of Carezza.
