Rittner cable car & railway
Just a few steps away from the bus station is the valley station of the Ritten cable car at Via Renon 12. Every day, every four minutes, a cable car departs from Bolzano to reach the 1,227 metres of Soprabolzano. The 12-minute ride offers a panoramic ascent with views of the Bolzano basin and the Sciliar and Catinaccio spires. The cable car cabins are spacious enough to accommodate bicycles and pushchairs.
Once you reach Soprabolzano outside the mountain station, the journey can continue by boarding the Ritten railway, the last narrow-gauge railway in South Tyrol, which departs directly from the mountain station of the cable car. The railway line dates back to the Belle Époque and in 1907 even departed from Walther Square, connecting the centre of Bolzano to the Ritten.
