Geological Museum of the Dolomites in Predazzo
What to do in Predazzo? A visit to the Geological Museum of the Dolomites, in Piazza SS. Filippo e Giacomo, for a journey through the past, present and future of the Dolomites is not to be missed.
The Geological Museum of the Dolomites in Predazzo, territorial headquarters of the MUSE – Science Museum of Trento, specialises in the geology of some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The museum was founded in 1899, thanks to the cultural ferment triggered by an exceptional geological discovery that brought geologists and scientists from all over Europe to Predazzo in the early 19th century.
The exhibition tells the fascinating geological history of the Dolomites, in particular of the Fiemme and Fassa Valleys, and the long evolution of the landscape. The museum’s scientific collections with specimens of fossils, minerals and rocks, are a precious testimony to the rich geodiversity of the area.
The Geological Museum organises activities, interactive workshops, guided tours and special events focusing on the geology of the Dolomites and the dynamics of the relationship between people and the land. Don’t miss the multimedia installation “Ablazioni sonore”, developed as part of the project Un suono in estinzione, which offers an immersive experience of the sounds and noises of the melting Adamello glacier. A unique and original experience to reflect on the implications of climate change.

At the Museum in Predazzo, geology is also digital, thanks to ‘GEOdi’ with virtual reality visors that allow an immersive experience among minerals, rocks, mines and unexpected scenery of the Dolomites and Trentino.
The Dolomites are not only mountains to see, but also to hear: in the GEOdi Podcast, you can listen to 10 stories telling the main stages in the evolution of the Dolomites and the mountains of Trentino.
